As part of its winter programme Lismore Dramatic Society will stage Robert
Harling’s classic “Steel Magnolias” from Thurs Nov. 25th-Sun Nov. 28th and also Thurs Dec. 2nd to Sun. Dec. 5th
A quintessential story of friendship and trust, Steel Magnolias serves up a southern slice of life that's as warm and comforting as sweet potato pie!
In the world of Truvy's local-homegrown beauty salon, six very different women come together to share their secrets, fears and love for one another while engaging the audience in hysterical and neighbourly gossip. From weddings to divorces, babies to funerals, new beginnings to happy endings, they share each moment in their lives with grace, determination, and perfectly coiffed hair. When tragedy strikes, it is in the familiar comfort of Truvy's salon that they seek solace and support.
Steel Magnolias was first presented in New York in 1987 where it played off-Broadway for 1,126 performances and was nominated for an Outer Critics’ Circle Award. It didn't gain universal notoriety until it was made into a film starring Julia Roberts, Sally Field, and Dolly Parton among others. Roberts earned her first Oscar nomination for the film.
Why not organise a girls night out and see this great play as a group or club!
The play is directed by James Lenane and a great week of theatre is assured.
