Old habits die hard when Tony Doherty, writer of “Go Walk” in The Irish Times Travel Supplement, gets to the Knockmealdowns. The walking correspondent freely admits to retracing his favourite route up the Sugarloaf and on to Knockfallia time and again. A change is better than rest however and a decision to explore the “rather peculiar” ridge leading to Knockshanahullion (Hill of the Old Holly) exposed “a fine walk to the west of the Vee that’s been undervalued for too long.”
